For my first full review I will talk about Alewerks. Alewerks is located in Williamsburg, Virginia tucked away in a small industrial area. I have gone there now twice, each experience has been nothing but amazing. In fact I made it a point on our last trip to North Carolina that we stop on the way through. Trust me it is that good!
It’s a has decent size taproom with a great selection of their beer on tap and available to take home. I can tell you first hand that I have not had a single beer from them that I haven’t liked, no joke, it is all very good or better. They offer a wide variety of beer, Alewerks doesn’t just focus on IPAs like some places do. They offered some amazing barrel aged, seasonal, limited, and holiday brews. I took home a Christmas Beer called Marley’s Lament that was pretty good. They also have a limited beer called Pancake House Stout that is unreal! They also have the distinction (at least when I visited Colonial Williamsburg) that they brew all the beer for Colonial Williamsburg, which is how I found them to begin with. Their name is all over the beers available in the Colonial Williamsburg park. They also had their beer in just about every store I walked into in that area. It wasn’t hard to find out why they are a pretty successful brewery.
As for food, Alewerks itself does not serve food, but they have food trucks that come and serve food outside. When I was there the second time, they had a food truck that was serving some interesting tacos. The taco shells were basically fried dough! It was great! Talk about “hitting the spot”! Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me remember what the name of the food truck was, but it was good! (If I find the name I will update) **Update, the name of the food truck was Hungry, Hungry Arrow.
Both times I went was with my family, and they were very great about accommodating families with kids. They had a wide variety of board games and outdoor games like cornhole. We also were not the only family there which was nice because our kids could play games with other kids. People were very friendly, we had multiple conversations with a few people both times we were there, even meeting couple that were there with their kids that used to live by us up in Maine. You just never know who you might run into, it’s a small world. I cannot speak to if they are pet friendly or not, I did not see any pets either time we visited, but I did not see anything about no pets.
Staff was great! They were friendly, helpful, and also responsible, they knew if people needed to be cut off. The staff was also knowledgeable about the beers, making recommendations on what to try (even though I loved all of it!).
If you are traveling anywhere near Williamsburg, make this a stop!! I have put their website, address and phone number below that I found on Google. Alewerks is one of my top five favorites breweries. The overall experience both times was just amazing. I will continue to seek the beers they brew and will go out of my way to visit the brewery again! So go check them out, go have an adventure and try new things!! Please Drink Responsibly.
